We are
currently at a health crossroads triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sadly, the country of origin of the virus and international
institutions have failed to help the global community in stemming the
COVID-19 pandemic. The silver lining, however, is that practices and traditions in Hindu Dharma, that date back to several millennia, offer valuable guidelines
in dealing with this highly contagious virus. Since time immemorial,
Hindu dharmic society has survived several natural and human
disasters. Hence this makes it the only ancient civilization that is
not only thriving but also teaching life lessons and ways of living to
the rest of the world.

The unmatched community resilience of the Hindu community is deeply rooted in its ethos of nature worship.
Natural forces are not only revered as gods, but endemic flora and
fauna are also respected and worshiped. Over generations, through
careful observation of natural phenomena, Hindu scholars and community
elders have incorporated vital principles and practices which are
imperative to ensure protection and safety of people, stem the
community spread and distress caused by diseases. It is important to
note that such practices are found across the Hindu community
irrespective of their geographical location.

Namaste diplomacy

At the
time of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global community has adopted several
Hindu practices in order to deal with viral infections and to maintain
social distancing norms. The very first Hindu adaptation was Namaste or
the traditional Bharatiya way of greeting a person with folded hands.
Since the Chinese government was unwilling to provide adequate and
accurate information about COVID-19, the rest of the world had little
reliable information about it. Initially, outside China, people only
knew that this virus spread from human to human by touch.

At this stage, world leaders began to avoid the handshake as a from of greeting and adapted the Hindu greeting, Namaste. Popularly termed as ‘Namaste diplomacy’ by the national and international media, videos of US President Donald Trump and Prince Charles of England using the Namaste instead of the handshake went viral on the Internet. Since Namaste doesn’t involve physical touch unlike the handshake, it was preferred during the pre-lockdown period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his meeting with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, US President Donald Trump asserted,
“We didn’t shake hands today, and we looked at each other and said what
we are going to do? It was sort of a weird feeling. We did this (joined hands). I just got back from India and I didn’t shake any hands there. It was easy.”.

The French president Emmanuel Macron has also adopted the Namaste. On March 11, 2020, the official Twitter handle of the French president announced,
“President Macron has decided to greet all his counterparts with a
namaste, a graceful gesture that he has retained from his India visit in
2018.’

While Namaste
diplomacy suddenly seemed politically correct, some leaders like the
British PM Boris Johnson did not practice this and instead shook
hands with COVID-19 patients as he visited them. Later, not
surprisingly, he too tested positive for COVID-19. It seems apparent
that Namaste is now the new hello and is slated to become a universally acceptable from of greeting.

Bharatiya knowledge systems and traditions: Embedded wisdom

Like other viral pandemics, the occurrence of COVID-19 happened when it was spring in Bharat. Since millennia, the vibrant Bharatiya knowledge systems and traditions
embedded in Hindu Dharma have been saving lives from zoonotic (a
disease that can be transmitted to humans from animals) and viral
diseases. Observing Navratri
during the transition of summer and winter, is a strategy to avoid
transmission of zoonotic diseases to humans by prohibiting consumption
of meat.

During Navratri,
Hindus observe fasting and are careful about the kind of food they
consume. This is believed to boost immunity and promote digestion.
Linking these traditional practices with religion not only widened their
acceptability but also made them important rituals to perform. Both Navratris
also overlap with the viral season, a time when viral flues occur.
Dietary restrictions and cleanliness are part of the celebrations which
are also meant to address emotional well-being of the individuals and
community.

Quarantine: A millennia-old Hindu tradition and practice

Quarantine
may be new for rest of the world, but for Hindus, especially those of
us from rural areas, it is woven into the fabric of our lives. In
fact, it is a traditional practice that dates back to 5000 years. Anyone born in a Hindu family in rural Bharat, is aware of the Hindu version of quarantine.

My chicken pox quarantine experience

My own experience is testimony to how intimately this practice is a part of our lives. I was born in a village in eastern Uttar Pradesh and spent the first few years of my life in a village in
western Bihar. I vividly remember my first quarantine experience when I
had chicken pox. After confirming the viral disease, my grandmother
took charge of arrangements, and ordered for desi quarantine methods.

Despite not having a separate room, I had to live in isolation. My bed was filled with fresh neem leaves and flowers.
Complete cleanliness and isolation was observed. All family members
had to abide by the dietary restrictions imposed. The use of masala
(spices) and frying were prohibited in cooking as the fumes might
irritate the nose and throat. However, the use of modern medicine
for the patient’s fever was permitted.

Unlike the widespread stigma and discrimination against people with infections today, I, the infected person wasn’t treated, discriminated against or hated, but rather, I was considered divine. Besides, no one was permitted to speak negatively about me. As soon as I recovered, there was Shitala Devi (an aspect of the Divine Mother who cures diseases, especially small pox and chicken pox) pooja (worship) and the family would then relish puri-gur (deep-fried bread made from wheat flour and jaggery) and channa (lentils) as prasad or sacred offering.

My Hindu
friends from different parts of Bharat confirmed the practice of the
same rituals in their households when children get infected with chicken
pox. In North Bharat, Goddess Kali or Shitala Devi Mata is worshiped as the Goddess who cures viral diseases. In South Bharat, the name is Maari Amman (Devi Parashakti).
Every village in the southern state of Tamil Nadu has a Maari Amman
temple. She is the guardian deity against plague and other pandemic
diseases. It is interesting to observe how perhaps the first ever
quarantine practice has endured for several millennia and saved the
Hindu population from countless pandemics.

Later,
the Romans and Christians too practiced quarantine for people with
leprosy by isolating them outside the town/city limits. Currently, quarantine is a short term public health measure to flatten the curve of contagious diseases such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Availability of food during a pandemic

Availability
of food is another challenge to the national and local governments
while dealing with COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, no country has
reported any food shortage during this global biological disaster.
However, families in Europe, North and South America, and many Asian
countries rely heavily on local retail stores, as not all households in
these countries cook meals at home and store raw material for future
needs. Unlike other countries, almost all Bharatiya households cook
their meals in their home kitchen and store staple food grains for
future needs. Thus, Bharatiya households are self-reliant in
food in desperate situations. This tendency has also played a
significant role in the availability of food in Bharat during the
lockdown.

Besides
households, villages in Bharat were also independent units for
millennia. In addition to food, daily needs and services were also
available in each village. However, our modern life style and
consumption patterns have caused many changes in villages. Despite such
developments, Hindu households and villages are still self-sufficient
to a larger extent. This self-sufficiency could also be instrumental
in containing the spread of pandemic.

Cremation or the final samskara in Hindu Dharma is another ritual which is being practiced all over the world during the COVID-19 crisis.
This eliminates the virus and prevents its spread. However, there is
communal resistance from Muslim and Jewish communities around the world
who have resisted the practice. They have forced state and national
governments to permit them to bury the dead. However, this practice
poses the risk of infection for people living near burial grounds.

Along with these common household practices, Hindu priests and vaidyas (physicians) also practiced
inoculation or variolation – a method to treat small pox by using virus
from the pus of infected people. Later, vaccination was discovered
using that basic principle.

Lost traditions and wisdom

However, even within Bharat, there is a sharp decline in such invaluable Hindu practices. Urbanization has had a negative impact on Bharatiya knowledge systems and traditions.
Sadly, much of these practices have been forgotten in urban Bharat.
Rapid urbanization and senseless emulation of Western life style and
belief systems threatens to eclipse and erase what little remains.

Modern education, largely Eurocentric and Americentric, has inoculated young minds to reject everything that is Hindu. In
higher education, there is a targeted campaign by left-leaning
educationists against Hindu traditions in the name of a ‘rational &
liberal’ education approach. However, other faiths are not viewed
through a left-liberal lens. Religious conversions too have played an important role in elimination of such millennia-old life saving practices.

Despite
these serious dangers to our traditional knowledge systems, Hindu
traditions are proving their relevance during the pandemic crisis. Most
of us are aware about the appropriate code of conduct: social
distancing, quarantining and cremating the dead. Every such practice
is aimed to contain the spread of the disease. Perhaps that’s why our collective resilience is significantly higher in Bharat compared to other countries.

For
increasing immunity, Ayurveda and Yoga are also very important
practices. Basic principles of Ayurveda and Yoga are meant to be
followed as lifestyle of a Hindu individual.

The
rationale of Hindu traditional knowledge system is not only limited to
human beings but also covers the rest of the natural world. Sustainable
development might be a new concept for the rest of the world, but Hindu
society has always practiced it through conservation and controlled use
of natural resources. In the post COVID-19 scenario, consumerism and

There is anger in some sections of Indian society, over the name of a movie which eventually got a big fem. The story of the movie is highly thought provoking and very true also. I have personally studied the seven slums of Delhi in 2002. I found many similar story during that time. It was an advantage to have a closer look on these poor people while living in metros like Mumbai and Delhi.

You would see worse kind of human abuses in these slums, however there is also a chain of command and food pyramid. Many stay there to make money and exploit the poor. Some stay there as temporary arrangement but they never get out of that labyrinth - and make it permanent.

Such slums have human cost, whoever live in scanty living space. However, due to their seer number, slums play important roles in Indian democracy. Irrespective of party, the government have sanctioned illegal colonies without proper planning, drinking water, drainage, fire safety, or health facilities.

People living in such dangerous spaces, often pay price by their lives. But they love convenient tweaking of rules and regulation in their favour. They serve the purpose of politicians. More than half of Mumbai lives in such dangerous and sub-humane conditions.

Electoral politics of Delhi, which is technically not a full state, is also decided by slum dwellers. Ironically, these people are going for someone who risks their lives in long run, but make sure that they will be living in this hell permanently.

Not until they have a better aspirations from life, they would continue to serve the purpose of politicians causing permanent harm to their own lives.

On auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, I would like to remind my folks few little things, these little things matter a lot for our cultural and physical existence. Pardon me for my little capacity or grammatical errors.

This is about world's largest genocide during 20th and 21st centuries. That didn't happen in Nazi concentration camp. It happened in erstwhile India, what liberal prefer to call 'South Asia' now. After 1947, Pakistan was having second largest Hindu population in the world.

Most of them were Bengali and Punjabi Hindus. Punjabi Hindus were not only massacred in Pakistan, but also in India. During 1970s and 1980s, thousands of Hindus were killed in India's Pakistan. But yes, It was very less number compared to the millions kill in Punjab and Bengal.

Incidentally, Bengalis had advantageous position in modern education, and they rule Indian academia till date. But ironically, we hardly find any research paper, article or even a monograph by these Bengali intellectuals on the genocide of Bengali Hindus. It is not that they are not aware of, it is not that they are not sensitive about it.

It was about their ideology, they choose to ignore the plight of own creed, own people. Same Bengali intellectuals have written volumes against Israel, condemning killed of few Palestinians. No, I am not joking, they really have done that.

If we find something today on world's largest genocide, it would be writings of foreigners or the global media. Few people like me too have written about it, but it get immediately discredited by these Sharia-Bolsevik intellectuals.

Even if the government change, they manage to remain in control, moreover their opponents, don't prefer their own people as they're highly scared of the people who know the reality.

So folks, we are by our own. And we don't have luxury of time. Sangh has already taken almost a century to do little bit of Hindu rise. But still we have to fight for our faith... In Sabarimala, in Ayodhya, in Amaranth. We don't have another century. Think of it. Get organized to save yourself from extinction.
Jai Shri Ram!

Remembering our 'अजातशत्रु' President Dr Rajendra Prasad, who made sure that Hindus too will have equal rights of religion, faith and dignity despite dictates of Nehru & tricks of Ambedkar.
Inaugurated the Omnipotent Somnath Temple. Where today, Catholic like Rahul Gandhi are forced to claim themselves as 'जनेऊ-धारी हिन्दू' in order win elections.
Nation shall always be indebted for his work on Partition of India, 'India Divided'. That too during a time when everyone was with "Nehruvian brand of Islamism" which was wickedly termed as "secularism".
My heartiest tributes to that brilliant man who lead the nation, the Hindus and showed us the way. We have to fulfill his tradition by inaugurating magnificent temples at Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi.

When I wrote that I am an atheist, a Hindu Indian friend shouted me for it. I was not surprised, He was living in America and the Americans see the world form their perspective. But It surprised me, because despite being Hindu, he is considering atheism as something disgusting. In our Hindu Dharma, no belief system is disgusting. You can worship anything, you can have your own faith. You are free to believe anything and nothing.
The concept of theology has western origin. A theology is always has an establishment. All addition and modification takes place only within that framework.

<span style="font-family: "Arial Rounded MT Bold","sans-serif"; font-size: 13.0pt;">Recently,
everyone seems to be writing a book - with their dark fantasies about sex and
other tempting sins, or some fake strange stories from the noted campuses. All
this 'book-rush' made 'book-market' full of literally crass stories aimed at
instant success and fame. Amidst all cacophony of sex-cum-love stories, a
serious admirer of literature that could present a realistic facets of the
society, could easily become disheartened. But thanks to Social Media,
specially my huge twitter follower list, I came to know about this book
'RI - Homeland of Uncertainty -THE BOOK' and its writer Paulami
DuttaGupta. Frankly speaking, I came to knew about the book first, as an award
winning Khasi movie, is based on it.<span style="font-family: "Arial Rounded MT Bold","sans-serif";">

Homeland of Uncertainty' (2013), was awarded as the best Khasi film in
the 61st National Film Awards. Later, through the author, I was lucky enough to
get a copy of the book.<span style="font-family: "Arial Rounded MT Bold","sans-serif";">

<span style="font-family: "Arial Rounded MT Bold","sans-serif"; font-size: 13.0pt;">After
overcoming my last few failed attempts of reading new English Books from India,
it took me for a while to read this book. Once started, this book is like fresh
air among all stale tastes of the existing trends. Surprisingly, the subject
matter of the book is highly unusual for any of the noted-unnoted writers - the
insurgency in Meghalaya. At the times, when terrorism in making the
headlines almost every day, we find everyone clueless on it. Not only is it
avoided for a serious policy level thoughts, but also they don’t want to talk
about it. And when it comes to the North-Eastern part of India, terrorism there
is usually less talked about. Few weeks ago, when the Christian Bodo terrorist
organization killed 80 people from other tribe, the outrage was not only
feeble, but also misplaced. Quickly, it was forgotten too.

<span style="font-family: "Arial Rounded MT Bold","sans-serif"; font-size: 13.0pt;"> But luckily, we have some people, who
know how to put things better. And Paulami in this book has not only put it
rightly, but also in very psychological perspective of it. The characters and
their detailing are simple yet uniquely interesting. Stake-holders of the
state, their responsibilities and their personal obligation on one hand and
terrorists' thinking on the other hand is well balanced and beautifully
narrated in this novel. With all its story, this book has exposed the ISI nexus
running across the border in Bangladesh. This well researched book has also
explained the corruption of security personnel at the border and how costly it
could be for the security of the nation. The thinking of terrorists is also
sketched in its own presumptions.

<span style="font-family: "Arial Rounded MT Bold","sans-serif"; font-size: 13.0pt;">
I would like to recommend this book to all those realistic people, who love
literature and consider literature as mirror of the society. This book deserves
more popularity as most of us need to know how to tackle the menace of
terrorism.

<span style="font-family: "Arial Rounded MT Bold","sans-serif"; font-size: 13.0pt;">The
book is available online through Amazon.

This year has been fulfilling year so far. Our well desired government is at center, India getting prominence in the world. And new visions on development, diplomacy and security are coming afore.
World Hindu Congress is brainchild of great visionary Swami Vigyananand ji. He conceptualized it in 2009, and presented in VHP-ICM Meet, Mumbai 2010.
And Finally last month the imagination and concept became the reality: When 1800 Hindus from 53 countries, heed the call of “Sangachchhadhwam Samvadadhwam” (Step together, Express together), and converge to put their combined constructive and positive energy together, the event had to be historic for Hindu rise and resurgence.

This happened from 21-23 November 2014 when delegates from around the world gathered

to deliberate the future for a better world at the First World Hindu Congress, through the universal Hindu values and pluralism, in New Delhi, Bharat. Seven conferences, 45 sessions, and 196 speakers provided the opportunity to discuss numerous issues affecting Hindu society and formulate appropriate pan of action.
Event related Press Release is here: http://bitl.ly/WHCPress
Swami ji has given me the responsibility of Social Media cordinator to the event, with dedicated volunteers like Srini, Liza, Sanjay, Deepak and Sunanda we did well and the resonance of #HinduRise became global. I chaired a session in Youth Conference too.

India's Mars Orbiter Spacecraft successfully entered into an orbit
around planet Mars today morning (September 24, 2014) by firing its 440
Newton Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) along with eight smaller liquid
engines. This Liquid Engines firing operation which began at 07:17:32
Hrs IST lasted for 1388.67 seconds which changed the velocity
of the spacecraft by 1099 metre/sec.

But this existence is quite complicated.

For someone like me - the existence is sprawled right from the means of living being to some in need and to the society, culture and nation.

I must accept that, many a times I have messed with the priorities of these aspects.Hence, lost on the due course of life. Many companions are lost by cruel hands of nature, many mend their ways out. But I keep discovering myself.

Along with my major research interests such as Natural Resource Management, Drought Management, Agriculture is one of my favorite topic for research and analysis. Agriculture is not only the most important economic activity that feed entire human population, it is also single source of livelihood for world's most poor and marginal population.

With openness provided by Internet Forums and #SocialMedia, there is a possibility of an inclusive policy discussion. One of such discussion was conducted by @IDRC "Are genetic crops the answer to the world food crisis? Ask India's Green Revolution founder" on World Food Day, 2013.

Though, I don't endorse genetic food for people due to possible generic massacre of agricultural gene-pool, my interest was solving food crisis. Hence my Question to M S Swaminathan, known as the father of the Green Revolution in India was this:

@AmiSri

@IDRC_CRDI @DougSaunders MyQuestion: Despite India has world's most hungry people why its #foodsecurity prog is always based on supply side?

M S Swaminathan replied:

To @AmiSri: It is correct that until recently grain mountains and hungry
millions coexisted in India. 2013 however marks a very significant
milestone in India's quest to achieve what Mahatma Gandhi wanted over 70
years ago - namely, a hunger free India. The Indian parliament has
passed a Food Security bill which will ensure that nearly 800 million
children, women and men will have access to the necessary calories at
very low cost, Rupees 1-3 per kilogram (about 60 Rupees per USD).

India is probably the only country in the world
which has made access to food a basic human right so that food with
human dignity becomes a reality. This is the largest social protection
measure against hunger ever undertaken on our planet. The transition
from a "ship to mouth" existence of the 1960s to the right to food with
homegrown food in this year 2013 is a remarkable tribute to both science
and public policy.

One girl was even burnt alive by 5 muslim rapists. The real reason was not even these gang-rapes, the actual reason was UP police dint take proper action against offenders as they were muslims. In recent years, there have been several exposes of the media-government collaboration. Some of them have been even shaming the profession of journalism. Nira Radiia, B. Dutt and many others found working in favor of ministers and the government. This nexus has been very useful for the government, as they can get away with biggest graft charges easily. After all, common people have short term memories like gold fish! One of such media guy rise up to PMO and become OSD with media in charge to PM.

When everyone, among media houses and the intellectual – liberal class was silently endorsing every act of the government, Pratap Bhanu Mehta (@pbmehta ) had a late realization of it and came up with this article 'While we were silent'
There is a saying in Hindi which reads, "Ek to chori, upar se seena jori." The UPA government is exactly doing the same, when OSD to PMO Mr Pankaj Pachauri blamed eminent academician and columnist Prof P B Mehta as 'he was sleeping while India progressed'.
When I pointed out this act of 'arm-twisting' to Pankaj (@PankajPachauri) he gave me PMO Report of Progress.

Going by the title itself, Mr Mehta has admitted that entire 'intellectual' tribe was silent on every mis-governance of UPA during all these years. As he admits his crime, he has been silent all these 9 years of loot and scams. This article is too little and too less!
However, Mr Mehta is one of the few intellectuals who don't always repeat govt lines. Though he had been critical to many policy blunders by the government, but He had never been this vocal to point out the daring dictatorship of the UPA government.

While studying this 9 year UPA govt report card, first thing one may notice is its lousy compilation, it appears like a total TRASH! What a CRIMINAL attempt to blur the figures in graphs which are adverse to the government & clearly type the good ones! For example – Page 6 & 7. I had never thought, that the highest office of the government would do something like this! Unethically, the Data sources are missing in most of the graphs.

As raised as first point by Mr Mehta, the road sector conditions in PMO report are same as his article. As per this report, it remained almost stagnant. Ref. Page 53, first graph.
In its infrastructure section PMO report has wickedly highlighted the annual passenger number. Any rise in number of people does not indicate better facility. Rather it shows lack of facility. Yet, its being claimed as achievement. But did govt produce people?

As per this @PMOIndia report, investment increased 10 folds, but rural roads grew not even twice, tells story of leakage.
On airline sector, this report remains silent on that, every Indian would agree with Mr Mehta as UPA destroyed it totally!

Coming down to the Power sector, We just faced world's largest & longest blackout, thanks to UPA govt. Though Mr Mehta dint even mention this, people of India are not going to forget this so easily. On energy, Mehta is right on faking act of govt in capacities & actual generation. PMO report also speak only about capacities, remain deceptive about real power generation.
Sluggish rise in per capita power consumption push India much behind as world has risen faster! What is this? Progress or cheating?

On Education: tall claims of the report assert only mismanagement as stated by Mr Mehta, creating IITs but no quality. First time in history of education, there's no taker for IITs. It's a real shame in name of higher education. Though, Mr Mehta forgot to mention arbitrary "communal freebies" distributed by UPA without any result. UPA government used even higher education to carve its vote-bank
On industry sector also PMO report tells same story as narrated by Mr Mehta, UPA has planned to kill it. Other points on NREGA and Agriculture tell the same story.

Coming down to the freedom of expression, Mr Mehta observed, "enacting colonial sedition acts on dissents while letting Congress Party official Digvijaya Singh say anything against political opponents" - it has proved that UPA has taken India back to colonial era.

In order to forgo all its misdeeds, grafts, scams and failures, UPA government has retorted to tactics of 'secular blackmail' along with tactful use of CBI against Mulayam Singh and Mayawati. Mulayam Singh has accepted this publicly. All these gray acts on political front don't add to any progress either. It appears that we have moved from democracy to total authoritarian form of government.

The comparative study of PMO report and Mr. Mehta 's article proves that Mr Mehta is right in every claim. Government may gag dissenting intellectuals by arm-twisting, keep other in kitty by buying but even international reports disagree with the official conclusion of progress by UPA government during 2004 – 2013.
Human Development Index by UNDP tells that India is getting backward in terms of human development. Rank among nations was 127 in 2004, it is now 136 ! TEN place fall in global rank of Human Development! Is that call progress?? It can't be defined as progress in any sense!

Not only that, India has fell in Press-Freedom Index as well. During the same time, the Global Hunger Index says India remain within 'Alarming' categories along with several African states.
With all these obvious decline of the India's position, I am sure, could have written much stronger article on this purposefully imposition of backwardness. Yet, he was arm-twisted by Mr Pachauri.

Just to remind this OSD to PMO, we are not sleeping; neither we are ignoring the authoritarian behaviour of UPA government. Let this information reach to the people and they will treat you in best possible ways!
So, Mr Pachauri, please don't do 'arm-twisting' on #SocialMedia because, over here we are the public, and we know everything!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
By Himalayan efforts, untiring hard-work and motivation from Swami Vigayananand ji, around 150 Hindu Youths are here from 11 different countries to participate in World Hindu Youth Congress, 2013. It was first day, and we all got huge treasure of information, knowledge and ideas to arise and organize the Hindu society.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Its wonderful to meet Hindus from all over the world, and specially from Bali. The session was started with the reciting of Bhagwat Gita, Chapter 2 sloka by Bhavin. Followed by energizing address by the governor of Bali, Mangku Pastika.
