Food Crisis and Agriculture in India

Along with my major research interests such as Natural Resource Management, Drought Management, Agriculture is one of my favorite topic for research and analysis. Agriculture is not only the most important economic activity that feed entire human population, it is also single source of livelihood for world's most poor and marginal population.     With openness provided by Internet Forums and #SocialMedia, there is a possibility of an inclusive policy discussion. One of such discussion was conducted by @IDRC "Are genetic crops the answer to the world food crisis? Ask India's Green Revolution founder" on World Food Day, 2013.     Though, I don't endorse genetic food for people due to possible generic massacre of agricultural gene-pool, my interest was solving food crisis. Hence my Question to M S Swaminathan, known as the father of the Green Revolution in India was this:  @AmiSri @IDRC_CRDI @DougSaunders MyQuestion: Despite India has wor...

Taking India backward: Achievement of UPA

In recent years, there have been several exposes of the media-government collaboration. Some of them have been even shaming the profession of journalism. Nira Radiia, B. Dutt and many others found working in favor of ministers and the government. This nexus has been very useful for the government, as they can get away with biggest graft charges easily. After all, common people have short term memories like gold fish! One of such media guy rise up to PMO and become OSD with media in charge to PM. When everyone, among media houses and the intellectual – liberal class was silently endorsing every act of the government, Pratap Bhanu Mehta (@pbmehta ) had a late realization of it and came up with this article 'While we were silent' There is a saying in Hindi which reads, "Ek to chori, upar se seena jori." The UPA government is exactly doing the same, when OSD to PMO Mr Pankaj Pachauri blamed eminent academician and columnist Prof P B Mehta as 'he was sleeping while...

Know Your President

Officially the first citizen of India and the supreme commander of Indian Armed forces, the president is not more than a rubber stamp. Since it is symbolically important to the image and nature of the nation, it reflect the ruling regime and also the electoral fallacy or electoral wisdom. Last president, allegedly a cook of Gandhi dynasty, reflected India's timid and remote controlled image for 5 years. Today, new president election results are to be declared. And to keep its tradition, UPA is making another dynasty loyalist Pranab who has a long history as crooked!  Here are some of his hight level corruption charges: 1. He was holding 'office of profit' at the time he filled nominations. 2. Shah commission, which was made to examine the culprits of Emergency 1975, found Pranab as one of the main power exploiter. 3. As per Frontline : "The commission noted in great detail that Pranab had played a great role in unceremoniously removi...

Indian Economy, Scams and Economic Sovereignty

While all Indians are living uncomfortably under a scam ridden country, the trails of graft and scams are still coming with same speed.  For example, just one major 2G scam ($ 40 Million) is substantial portion of   India's GDP   ($1.73 Trillion). Since then huge scams like  Commonwealth Games Scam,  Coal Scam, KG Basin Oil Block selling, NRHM Scam, MNREGA Scam and IPL Scam are equally huge, the portion of black money is huge in proportion in Indian power game.  It is funny to see the top brass of government are not only covering up all he scams but also taking retrogressive steps to shoot down new business and start-ups.  The Annual Budget 2012-2013 of Indian Union presented by Finance Minister Pranab Mukharjee imposed a new tax ‘Startup Tax’. “It is proposed to insert a new clause in section 56(2). The new clause will apply where a company, not being a company in which the public are substantially interested, receives, in an...
